Someone You Love Has Disclosed. Now You Need to Know What to Do Next.

When a survivor tells you what happened, whether it was sexual assault, trafficking, exploitation, or abuse, everything shifts. You’re no longer wondering what’s wrong. Now you’re carrying the weight of knowing, and trying to figure out how to respond in a way that actually helps.

The questions come fast: Am I saying the right things? What happens now with law enforcement or the courts? What does normal trauma behavior look like and what should I be worried about?

This consultation gives you a space to ask those questions with someone who has worked inside these systems, alongside survivors, and with families navigating exactly what you’re experiencing.

person on a phone call with a calm and focused expression receiving guidance and support

Important Note

This consultation is designed for adults seeking guidance and support after a disclosure of human trafficking, sexual assault and exploitation involving persons over the age of 18.

If a minor has disclosed sexual abuse, exploitation, trafficking, or harm, a report to law enforcement or child protective services may be legally required depending on the situation and your state laws.

If there is immediate danger or an active emergency situation, please contact law enforcement or emergency services directly.

This consultation can help you understand next steps, navigate systems, and respond in a trauma-informed way, but it is not a substitute for emergency response, legal advice, or crisis services.

Who This Consultation Is For

This service is for any adult who has received a disclosure and is trying to show up well for the person they love. This includes:

  • Partners or spouses supporting a survivor
  • Extended family members trying to understand what happened and what to do
  • Parents or caregivers whose adult child has disclosed sexual assault, trafficking, or exploitation
  • Close friends who have become a primary support person after a survivor’s disclosure
  • Mentors, coaches, or educators who have received a disclosure from someone they work with

You don’t need to have all the answers. You need someone who does.

Most people in this position are trying to navigate the investigation, manage their own fear, support the survivor, and make sense of conflicting information from systems and professionals all at the same time.
This consultation is designed to help you do all of that more effectively.

What We Work On Together

Your consultation is focused, educational, and grounded in real-world experience working within the systems your loved one is now navigating.

Understanding What Your Loved One Has Been Through

What sexual assault, trafficking, and exploitation actually look like, including the dynamics of coercion, manipulation, and control that make these situations so complex.

Trauma Responses After Disclosure

Why survivors behave the way they do after telling someone. What looks confusing, contradictory, or alarming from the outside, and what it actually means. What is normal, and what warrants concern.

How to Support a Survivor After They've Told You

What helps, what inadvertently causes harm, and how to stay connected to your loved one through the process even when it’s painful or confusing.

What to Expect in a Sexual Assault Investigation or Court Process

A clear, honest walkthrough of what happens after a disclosure that enters the legal system. Who is involved, and how to emotionally prepare yourself and support the survivor.

Human Trafficking and Exploitation: What Families Need to Know

Understanding the dynamics that make trafficking and exploitation difficult to see clearly and what post-disclosure navigation looks like when these systems are involved.

Making Sense of Conflicting Information

How to navigate disagreement between professionals, family members, or the systems involved and how to stay grounded when you’re getting different answers from different directions.

About Marcie Rey Landreth, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida and Montana | Consultation available nationwide

When someone discloses sex trafficking, sexual assault or exploitation, the people around them are often left without a roadmap. I built this service to change that.

I bring extensive clinical and systems-level experience working in sexual abuse, exploitation, and human trafficking; not just as a therapist, but as a coordinator, advocate, and task force leader. I understand how these situations unfold inside families, investigations, and legal systems, because I have worked inside all three.

My role in this consultation is to give you the clarity you need to respond well  for yourself, and for the person you’re supporting.

What This Service Is Not

Not therapy or mental health treatment

This is an educational consulting service. If therapy is needed, for you or for the survivor, I’m happy to help identify appropriate referrals.

Not an investigative or diagnostic service

I do not review evidence, render opinions on what occurred, or make investigative conclusions. That work belongs to law enforcement and legal professionals. My work begins after a disclosure has already been made.

Not legal advice or legal representation

I provide context and education about how legal processes work, not legal counsel, and not direct communication with attorneys or courts.

Frequently Asked Questions

I received a disclosure recently. I'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start. Is this the right place?

Yes, this is exactly what this service is designed for. The period right after a disclosure is often the most disorienting, and having someone who understands these systems walk you through what to expect can make an enormous difference. You can come with a list of questions or simply your situation.

What if I'm still not sure whether what happened counts as assault or trafficking?

That uncertainty is common, and it doesn’t disqualify you from this consultation. If someone has told you what happened to them, we can work together to understand the dynamics involved, including what legally or clinically constitutes different types of harm. You don’t need to have language for it yet.

What if no one has told me directly, I just suspect something is wrong?

This service is specifically designed for adults who have already received a disclosure. If you’re in the earlier stage of suspicion or concern, before anyone has told you what happened, this may not be the right fit right now. I’m happy to help you identify a more appropriate resource for that stage. Please feel free to reach out.

My loved one is an adult, not a child. Is this still a good fit?

Absolutely. This consultation supports anyone navigating these dynamics, regardless of the survivor’s age. The service is for you, as the person in a support role, and is appropriate whether your loved one is a minor or an adult.

I'm a teacher, coach, or mentor - not a family member. Can I use this?

Yes. This consultation is open to any trusted adult in a support role after a disclosure, including educators, coaches, mentors, extended family members, and close friends. If someone has told you what happened and you’re trying to figure out how to respond, this service is designed for you.

What happens after I request a consultation?

After booking, you’ll receive a brief intake form to share your situation and any specific questions. This lets us be focused and efficient from the moment we start. Sessions are held via phone or secure video, whichever you prefer.

Do I have to share everything that happened?

No. You share only what feels relevant and comfortable. You are in control of what you bring into the conversation. At the start of each session, I’ll briefly explain my confidentiality obligations, including mandated reporting, so you feel fully informed before we begin.

You mentioned mandated reporting. What does that mean for me?

As a licensed professional, I am legally required to report suspected abuse or neglect of a minor, or imminent risk of harm to yourself or someone else. If you have questions about what this means in your specific situation, we can address it at the very beginning of our session.

Is this therapy?

No. This is an educational consulting service, not therapy or mental health treatment. Our work is focused on helping you understand what you’re navigating, the dynamics, the systems, the processes, so you can respond from a place of clarity. If therapy is something you or your loved one needs, I’m happy to help identify appropriate referrals.

Can you tell me whether what happened was abuse or assault?

Formal determinations of that kind are outside my scope, they belong to investigators and legal professionals. What I can do is help you understand the behaviors, dynamics, and patterns involved so you can make more informed decisions about next steps.

How does payment work?

Payment is due at the time of scheduling. All major credit cards are accepted. This is a private-pay service, not covered by insurance.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations or rescheduling requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled session.

  • Cancellations made with more than 24 hours’ notice are eligible for a full refund or may be rescheduled.
  • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice are non-refundable.
  • Missed sessions (no-shows) are non-refundable.

If you need to reschedule, you may do so one time with at least 24 hours’ notice. Additional changes may require booking a new session.
